Ready, Set, Dissect: Nursery

This is a little boys nursery I found on Decorpad. What do you think? I wasn't sure that it was meant to be a boys nursery, but I read it twice.

Personally I think it's pretty cool, but then again I am a fan of colour in kiddies rooms. Maybe the pink mat might be a little crazy... too much stimulation? Love the wall sticker though!

Hope you are all having a great week. Thanks for coming by and visiting us.

Have you seen our GIVEAWAY?

Hi Katrina Love it but for sure I'd lose the hot pink rug - I don't think they'd ever sleep with that glowing at them

Yes I would lose the pink rug as well. I do like the sheepskin rug in this room. Love the chair, the giraffe and the blind.
But generally I'm not crazy about this room. It is a bit bland for me. I like a nursery to be a warm and cozy place, that looks inviting and fun.
Thanks for showing us:)

Get rid of the pink rug for sure....it's ok (without rug) I wouldn't rave about it.

I was trying to work out what wasn't working for me and then I realised it was the door that has no purpose....Either make it really have no purpose by putting something over it like a curtain or a bookcase or leave it look like it works....all the stuff in front doesn't work with the door.
The Chair is devine and the cot and blind....for me everything else looks like a photographer has said quick grab something and put it here and have you got a box to put some toys on the floor.
I am not sure it would really matter though cos in a babes world a room like this would be perfect...
I love dissecting though.

I like it on the whole, but like Elements it felt a bit "wrong". I've obviously spent too much time looking at nurseries lately, but the box of toys on the floor, small items on the lower shelves of the oeuf library and the height of the cot (it is placed for a very young child) just didn't seem to make sense. And it does look as though the chair is blocking the door (is this a wardrobe?)

The hot pink rug is just a bit much for my tastes too.

Ok, I will give my 'designers' perspective...

There are a few things in this arrangement that dont work quite right...
you have the obvious things - the door and that random occasional table in the middle of the floor...but aside from that...
You obviously have a mashing of a few different themes and styles and they all clash as opposed to work harmoniously with each other... When done well you can achieve a harmonious discord... but it has to be done really well... and it isnt an easy task to mash bits together that arent supposed to 'go'.

In this room the competing elements are the classic style cot, chair and roman blind on one team and the modernist/retro shelf, table, lamp and 'shag' rug. or you can look at it in colours... classic duck-egg, taupes and white opposing bold pink, orange and yellow... nothing flows and there are too many stand alone elements, which creates an uneasy environment, as oppposed to a restful calming stress free room.

As for the colour psychology in the room, Blue is an obvious choice for the dominant colour in a nursery - calming and restful. the Pink is also a more restful colour than its red and purple cousins, but teamed with the poopy orange colour and the yellow accents is simply looks gawdy and very blocky and even thought it is on the floor, would create visual over-stimulation, and make for an energetic environment.

Don't want to even get started on the blind... actually, yeah I do... The selection of soft furnishings in a room, especially of your window coverings is extremely important... that blind for one, isnt even blockout... 2 it is a roman blind that is placed right next to a baby's cot, and if you know how a roman blind is made, they have cords fixed to the back for operation - NOT SAFE! and 3, the print - random much?? the bold and blocky butterflies don't go with anything...

If you had to use what was in that room... you could fix the flow by moving furniture around, put the cot where the shelf is and vise versa, the chair needs to be moved from that spot to the opposite corner, with teh occasional table to keep it company and the toybox might fit well under the window or at the end of the cot... as for the floor... close ya eyes. blergh!

Not sure about the pink rug as everyone else thinks too. It just doesn't really work. But cute otherwise.

I'm the same, love the room but not the rug. I'd love it if the rug were more neutral and soothing for a baby. Cool room though!
