Remember Katrina has 3 snotty nosed, strawberry eating, mud wrestling little dudes...which white sofa would you have?
We had quite a chat about our favourite colour for a sofa on the Decorating Forum. Come and let us know what is yours on the Decorating Forum.

White linen slip covers - they cope with anything, red wine, chocolate, berries, mud...
I wash them and put them back on slightly damp, smoothing them with my hands.
(I swear I commented on this post already - RSS troubles?)
I'm thinking maybe the leather with Katrina's 'accessories'! I have slip covers although they're not white and the only thing you have to make sure of is that you've got a washing machine big enough to fit them in!
WASHABLE all the way! I have a white Ikea loveseat, and I sewed a whitish(actually a dropcloth) slipcover for it...when it gets yucky, it goes in the washer and is good as new. But I do not allow eating on it. That helps!
Mum has a very pale leather couch and it wears well, though pigment washes clothes do rub off colour onto it. I have Ikea slipcovers and they wash so well with some napisan, I have to change fairly regularly due to Molly dog and her dirty paws (she was never trained to keep off it!).
White slipcovers will never be out of style :)
Suede.....There is no white leather than will not get colour transfer from things like jeans and black pants and what about dirt you don't know about....it slowly builds up on the seat front of your lkounge as people slide themselves into their seating position and not to mention the fading that can happen anywhere near sunlight and slowly make that white appear slightly beige.
Suedes are sooooo easy to keep clean and looking fresh. Add some amazing fabric, back cushions on the top of this fabric and voila its amazing.
I had a lady a few weeks ring up and say "my daughter has just used the back of my sofa as her canvas....very talented, but so was mummy....a sponge and some water took the pen straight off....that is easy.
Fabric is also great if man made material is used but the woven threads catch dirt. Great question. At the end of the day you will find you are leaning one or another and will choose based on others experiences rather than technical facts....I love white but I just am not good with it myself.
Funny you should mention it...after washing tomato juice off my white slipcover last week I just this morning discover blood from my daughters ingrown toenail (ouch) on it, so it's back into the washing machine today. If they'd been leather I imagine a quick wipe would have sufficed. But I guess I'm a glutton for punishment because I'd still go for the slipcover as I'm not fond of the feel of leather.

Def. slip covers until the little cherubs are old enough to not be wiping their filth all over everything (when is this exactly b/c my husband still wipes his filth?) Unfortunately white leather is just screaming out "pleeease draw on me with ball point pen!". I have been able to wash out every evil imaginable from the good old slip cover - but the next question is where can you buy decent ready made ones?

The best in my opinion is leather! We have a white leather couch and it does show up some marks, but I jsut get out the leather cleaner and done!
Suede for me. Actually I cheated when publishing this blog last night. Katrina hadn't mentioned suede- so I just snuck that option in:)
We have had white suede for 9 years and it wipes clean. It doesn't have 1 stain on it. In winter I do use a throw rug over them as the dye from jeans rubs off on to the suede piping. It wipes off easily but sometimes prevention is easier.
We also have a white man made fibre couch for Mr17. It cleans easily enough but not as easy as the suede.
We had leather (green) years ago but it ripped a couple of times from simple things.
I would also consider slip covers over leather.
By the way no one jumps on my couches like that photo- they know their life would be over:(
I have a off white sofa for clients. Clients who eat and drink on it. Who bring babies and children.. it isnt a drama. It washes if it needed too.. but in 6 years it has needed to be washed a couple of times and i wash it occasionally just to keep i fresh. It is a thick cottonish kinda fabric.
I'm wanting a white or light coloured lounge myself at the moment. I love the look of all the washable ones like in pictures 1 & 4 (although 5 is beautiful too!)
I don't even know where to buy these... anyone???
I want a super comfy one that you just sink into!

Go the slip covers, everyone who has them swears by them. I am hoping to get some real soon

I am hoping to get a white couch in the very near future but it will be a slip covered one. Most likely the IKEA Ektorp range...
Don't do white leather! All the dirt sticks into the grain and you can't get that out. I have a friend who has a white leather lounge and you swear it was cream because of the dirt. My sister in-law (very particular with no kids) has a cream lounge and it still gets dirty just from people sitting on it.
I wouldn't even go there girl! Stay away from white with three boys. I have two boys and that's enough to get me hyperventilating about white sofas.....
I'd go washable every day even with little girls (and a big boy)! Emma. xx
I have a white Sofa, it has the heavy denim covers that all come off and get thrown into my washing machine!! And I have 2 kids and they still work!!
A close friend just bought a white couch for her place - thought she was a bit nuts as she has a three year old!
I don't think I'd last a week before I spilt red wine on it!

defn washable fabric slip covers- i love the casual look of these and its a great neutral base to work with...a friend of ours has 3 young kids under 5 and an all white house - she loves them!!
Hi, I also have 3 gorgeous boys and two lovely cream sofas. I have gone with the washable covers. They have worked beautifully. I have had them 2 years. I just love my cream sofas.
I have a WHITE french provincial sofa..I just keep it covered....It's in my 2nd livingroom :)))))
I would choose washable though if i could do it again.
We have a cream fabric lounge but it's not our everyday lounge and so doesn't get heaps of use. I like the look of slip covers but I think leather would probably be the hardest wearing with three boys - my aunty has one and it's lastest for so long and still looks as good as new!
